福島大学 Fukushima University
Since its establishment in 1949, Fukushima University, based on the spirit of freedom, autonomy, and self-reliance, has trained a wide range of professionals who offer valuable expertise in the educational, industrial, and administrative sectors.
After undergoing a university-wide academic systems reorganization in 2004 and 2019, Fukushima University aims to be a higher educational institution with a strong presence and credibility in the community through its promotion of education and research that integrates the humanities and sciences achieved through its unique interdisciplinary academic system.
On March 11th 2011, Fukushima University experienced the Great East Japan Earthquake and the subsequent nuclear disaster. Since then, as a higher educational institution located in the disaster area, Fukushima University has taken a leading role in systematically and comprehensively addressing universal issues that arose from the disasters, such as educational reform, community resilience, environmental sustainability, energy issues, and agriculture. By accumulating this knowledge, Fukushima University will continue to confront such so-called “21st Century Challenges” together with local communities, and contribute to the revitalization of the area through the development of human resources who can design creative solutions to regional issues that utilize an international perspective.
